POP ART & COMICS
from January 29th toFebruary 10, 2020
RINASCENTE - CATANIA

POP-ART AND COMICS is an exhibition featuring around 50 works and offering the opportunity to revisit Umberto Gagliano's work on everything that embodies his innate passion for American comic book representations of the "Golden Age," the period between the 1950s and 1970s.
Everything went hand in hand, from newsstands to the most important modern art galleries in an explosion of images, shapes and colours, expressions of POP-ART.

Throughout this exhibition, the artist's "need" to represent the faces of comic book characters of the time in large dimensions is evident.
It faithfully reproduces the covers and first pages of superhero comics as a tribute to the great artists: Jack Kirby, John Romita Sr. and John Buscema.
The artist, influenced by authors such as “Roy Lichtenstein”, an exponent of American Pop Art with “Ben-Day” dotted techniques, gives rise to some works from his collection “VIVA S.AGATA - CATANIA IN POP-ART”, in a “mash-up” between more or less well-known faces from comics and the settings of the area in which he lives.
Interpreting Umberto Gagliano's works helps us understand his work as an evolving process aimed at the search for an identity.
