DESCRIPTION AND GENESIS OF THE WORK
“Milan – The Madonnina,” the artwork for the “Made in Italy” project, is a tribute to the most European city in our country.
The work, inspired by the graphics of 1960s Marvel Comics, celebrates three iconic symbols: the Madonnina, the Duomo, and the red cross of the city's banner.
In my vision, the golden statue on the highest spire of the Duomo comes to life, descends into the streets and, with the care of a mother for her children, offers protection to the industrious inhabitants of Milan.
Thus “The Madonnina,” along with the city that never sleeps, becomes the protagonist—city and superheroine at the same time—of one of those 1960s American comics I read and loved as a child.
